View MoreFirst I want to say that I completely understand that people who have bad experiences with Pit Bulls might not understand why people defend them. I also want to say I'm sorry that these things happened to them. I don't know all of the facts surrounding these experiences to say wether or not it was due to human fault or not. I just want to say that I am a vet tech and I work with all breeds of dogs at work all the time. I also own an APBT and a Bull Terrier and I rescue Pit Bulls. I also grew up with an APBT and a Pit Bull/American Bulldog mix and Bullmastiffs. Our Pit Bull/American Bulldog mixed dog was not right in the head. She would growl at anyone that would come near my mother (myself included). She killed several of my cats and almost killed our APBT that was abut 5 years older than her. My mom finally got rid of her. I believe that dog had issues due to genetics more than due to human error. Just like I believe that some humans are genetically messed up, I beleive some dogs can be genetically unsound. It's the whole nature vs. nuture agrument. I think that dogs (any breed, not just pits) that show human aggression should be euthanized and definately not bred! Especially since there are soooooo many other dogs that are worth saving. It's also dangerous to keep dogs that can potentially be human aggressive. I think it's wrong that people assume that only Pits can attack people. A lot of the time people can't even tell the difference between Pits and other similar breeds. I do agree that "gangster" and "drug dealer" types of people tend to have these dogs. At one point in time it was Dobi's and Rotti's, now it's Pits. I can tell you that I may not be a rich upper class caucasian, but I have a college degree, I own my own home, I have 2 cars (none of them hoopties), and I am married to the father of my 7 year old son. I put this out there becasue I'm tired of seeing these racist and prejudice remarks about what these snobby people on CL think a Pit Bull owner is. Also take into consideration that rescues and owners don't want to label their "good Pits" as Pits, so instead they label them as "Boxer mixes". So if every good Pit is labeled as another breed and only the "bad Pits" are labeled as Pits, then Pits will never clear themselves of this negative stigma. Again, don't bash the breed because you've had a negative experience with one. I have had bad experiences with many different races, creeds, religions, and backgrounds of people....I don't go around trashing everyone of their kind. -(Pitluve88)
