On Feb. 1st, my blue pitbull went into labor. This was her 1st litter & she was a week early so I was a little worried. I noticed that she was leaking fluids at 2pm when i was about to leave for work. When I came home at 11pm there were no puppies. I stayed outside in her whelping box until 2am then decided to go to bed knowing that when I woke up there would be puppies. Except when I woke up at 9am there were still no pups!!! I freaked of course. She looked very lathargic & imediately call the vet. They said to bring her in & I did. They had to remove the 1st puppy by hand so to speak. & of course it was dead. And then 10 mins later she pushed one out on her own! A beautiful blue fawn female. I was so excited! Then the vet said that maybe she could do it on her own & that the 1st pup was holding up the line because it was too big. Well I waited by her side while the vet spayed another dog in the next room & did her rounds. 2 hours later no more pups (& we all knew there were more because she was HUGE). I said that I thought that maybe the next pup was stuck & we should definately consider a c-section. The vet wanted to wait another hour or so.... And of course I went along w/ it because the vet is supposed to know what they are talking about. Well another 2 hours later still no more pups. Then she said that she was going to induce her to make the contractions stronger because she thought my dog wasn't trying hard enough. So I went with it. Then the vet left to drop off her daughter at dance recital & said she would be back in an hour or so. So I went home to check on my kids & hubby for a couple mins (we live all the way across town from the vet) & then came back for my dog...STILL NO PUPPIES!!! They gave my dog more oxytocin to induce her further plus calcium to make it work better. Than 45 mins later (7pm) they say they are about to close & refer me to another vet to get a c-section!!! I was sooo upset. Why didn't they do that way earlier??? I drove back across town to the other vet who was much closer to me. They brought her back imediately. They also tried to induce her, but after 20 mins they said there is something wrong & took her into surgery. There were 8 puppies left in her...all of them were stillborn (dead) they had a vet tech for each puppy trying to revive them for 45 mins. It was so sad. I wanted to just walk away, but I stayed for my "Boo" (the momma) & watched her vitals while they stitched her bck up. They were so sincere when the apologized for not being able to save the pups. I knew it wasn't there fault. I should have brought her to them 1st. The 1st vet stalled for so long trying to get money out of me that they let my pups suffocate!!! Turns out when the 1st vet induced her, they caused her uterus to tear & thats part of the reason she couldn't push them out. Also she had infection building up inside her & leaking into her insides thru that tear from the pups dying inside her. I almost lost my dog & her pups!!! The next morning the only surviving pup died. She was too weak to beastfeed & when I tried to hand feed her she wouldn't swallow (even when I rubbed her throat). She just cried. And so did I. I feel so bad for my dog & her pups. I mourn with her every moment. I don't care that I'm out $1000 in vet bills & $6000 in pups. I just wish I could take the pain away from her. She searches for her pups everytime I take her out to potty. And she has adopted some stuffed animals that she takes care of. But I know it's not the same. And I think she does too. I blame myself partially. I should have told that 1st vet to quit #$@! around & do her job. I will never go to Banfield again. (The vet inside Petsmart). The next day I heard all types of horror stories about different Banfields & I just wish I knew before I had went. If only I could go back in time... :'( I'm so sorry Bonny Blue & Monster. If I could bring your pups back I would....

That dog should have had a c-section as soon as it arrived at the first vet. Did the vet know she had been in labor for 21 hours?? Or did they just not care? You are lucky you didnt lose momma too. Im sorry for your loss. If that vet knew that your dog had been in labor for that extended period o... View More

Oh wow...my vet here is awesome. Dont have to pay for anything up front. Someone broke in my house and shot my female a while back. It blew her whole side out. The cops said it looked like she had been shot point blank with a rifle of some sort. Anyhow she has just had her pups 4 days before. The... View More
