It's a shame that there isn't the same effort put into genetic testing of our pets as there is for our livestock. Our dogs are just as important in our lives as family members, and I think it would behoove these laboratories to dedicate a little more time to them too.

Agreed. I think it is because of the commercial aspect and monetary value placed on pets vs. commercial animals. An expensive dog may run a couple of thousand, which is equivalent to a cheap horse.
