SNAKEPITKENNELS,

Most people, who have ever been
owned by a dog, know that they
talk to us, and that if we pay
attention, we can understand what
they are saying.

No, they dont speak to us in
words, even though I have seen a
few on TV video shows who have
learned that making a sound like a
word like "MOMMY" or "I love you"
can get them noticed, so they
learn really well!

The wagging tail when we come home
says, "Oh boy, Oh boy, your home,
I have missed you for the last 25
years!"  Remember that dogs have
no sense of time, to them if you
are gone an hour it is the same as
being gone for days!

The nudge under the dinner table
says "How bout a treat, I wont
tell anyone."  The bark at the
door says, "Let me out, I have
important business to take care
of!"

These are all forms of
communication your dog uses to
speak to you, and you need to
learn their language. Only by
talking to them, and paying
attention
to their communication
can this happen.

Training a dog to use the
communication you want him to use
is extremely important.  Teach him
that when he goes to the door,
sits and barks once or twice, it
means its time to go out,
otherwise, he may believe that he
has to bark and bark over and over
again, this can be distressing to
you and the dog.

Teach him early on by paying
attention, dont make him bark
numerous times to get your
attention.

So, is it ok to talk to you dog,
oh yes, and it is really important
that you be consistent with what
you say.  Training your dog to
respond to your commands is not
only important, it is imperative.
No one wants to be around a dog
that isnt well behaved.
