I have a 6 week old puppy and he likes to play, but it's beginning to concern me. I've had puppies before but none like him. When he plays he growls, ALOT, and sometimes he actually lunges at your hand or your face if your laying on the ground with him. Sometimes he sounds like he's really trying to attack you. So my question is has anyone ever had a puppy like that?? If so, did he grow out of it? Is he truly just playing? or should i be concerned? Thanks for any input.

I have read in many dog books that play no matter how innocent it was is always practice for when they would be on there own.  When they were in there pack the would play and when it would come time they would determine who was Alfa.  You need to be alfa wether its in play or other wise. Puppies only know what they can get away with they don't know good or bad that is what we need to teach them.  You need to show dominates and even a mother to its pup will submit them when the game is over or its gotten to too rough.

All info posted to your concern is very valuble and should be noted in a noted book. Now think of it like this, a child that HITS his/her parents at an early age and  NEVER CORRECTED for that BEHAVIOR will most likely  CHALLENGE his/her parents when they become of age. NOW heres what the other replies missed, HOW you SOLVE the PROBLEM. STOP PLAYING WITH YOUR APBT WITH YOUR HANDS OR ANY PART OF YOUR BODY, DO NOT LET THEM LICK YOU IN THE FACE OR ANY PART OF YOUR BODY, USE TUG TOYS, TENNIS BALLS ETC. FOR PLAY  REMEMBER YOU ARE ALPHA!! (2nd) A CORRECTION SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR BAD BEHAVIOR, IN YOUR CASE YOU SHOULD GIVE A OPEN HAND POP UNDER THE MOUTH TELLING YOUR APBT NO!!!! EVERY TIME HE/SHE EXZIBITS THAT BEHAVIOR. REMEMBER YOU ARE ALPHA AND THAT K9'S ONLY KNOW WHAT YOU TEACH THEM.
