How do you feel about registration and what value do you see in it?

I think breeders use registrations to their advantage and to show that they have high quality pitbulls. People seem to purchase any breed for a higher price if it is registered.  Fetch

We registered our APBT's to keep track of their lineage/heritage... to know their bloodlines! Registering APBT's does raise the value but that is second to knowing their lineage. Knowing the lineage also helps provide insight on their true qualities and what your pooch may throw in future breedings... basically helps to better this wonderful breed. By knowing your pooches bloodlines it helps keep down inbreeding.

I feel that registration is needed to see the bloodline in the breed.  The cost however, should be determined by the breeders expenses of that particular pup for sale.  For example:  Routine Vet checks (complete: xrays, bloodwork, dental, ears, MRI for purchaser records) to find genetic defects and should be done in stages of a pups 8 week growing period, shots, chipping, surgeries (cropping, toes). Registering fees with different registrations and the over all care and treatment of the pup.  This is what the PURCHASER should be looking for and requesting when the price is set so high.  If the breeder or kennel can't provide docuementation which warrants the price, then I would reconsider another breeder or kennel.  The price should warrant the fees and care rather than the gene pool.  Hope this information sheds some light on where the actual price is determined.  A breeder or kennel should not eat the expense of keeping the breed going.  With my particular kennel I provide potential buyers the exact expense that occurs with that pup from birth until purchased plus 400 dollars (to improve my kennel) which determines the total purchase price, kinda of like a receipt at a walmart.  If you have any questions please email me at [email protected] or visit www.MissourisFinestPitBulls.com Thank you for you time.

I see value in registration also for the lineage. Where my female and male come from, I don't know and it really bothers me. I want to know I got a puppy from a good background - no crazy dogs or with alot of faults in their personality. My male's parents are both registered but my son bought him without papers and we didn't get any papers when we bought my female. They could be from great bloodlines or maybe not. I wish the owners of mine would have gotten them registered. It would have answered many questions.

i just kno from experience that you get more money out of the pups if their parents are registered. (not saying that money means everything. cause i would much rather see the dog go to a good, loving family, than get an extra $100 bucks from someone else.)  But i believe this because alot of times when the dogs are breed intentionally the breeder will take more time, care, etc.(Like picking a good dog to stud, therefore producing a better litter, allround.) Verses if ur dog jus so happens to get knocked up and you're just trying to get rid of the pups. People also like the fact that they can "brag" that they're dog "has papers." and its a BIG plus that when u register w/ the APBR u get acess to things like this awesome page. Also, its great being able to show & keep track of their pedigrees.

you dont know if your getting what you really want if your not gettin a registered dog with peds. nothin wrong with having dogs that arent registered or that dont have a pedigree, the problem comes when people start breeding them. How are we suppose to preserve this great breed when every poorly bred mutt that is born produces 6 more even more poorly bred ones? If your not doing this to better the breed then you are hurting the breed and you are a back yard breeder!
