Starting on the new kennel design today as of right now 52' X 18' A frame or slanted roof type structure. Cant afford concrete flooring right now so probably going to go with like a pea gravel for now. Not sure if I am going to use welded wire or chain link for fencing, chain link is incredibly expensive (any advice is welcome). I already have my water lines dug and same for electric. Anyone wants to throw there 2 cents in I am always open to suggestions.

Took your advice goin with the decking sounds like over time it will pay off and be less work and worry than dealing with the gravel.

Chain link is pretty inexpensive at lowes around 40.00 for 4ftx50ft maybe 20.00 more for 6 ft tall. Hog panel is the best but it is more expensive and you have to go to a farm supply to get it. Im doing the same hting this summer except I'm building above ground pens. Going to build 4 of them. For a frame, 2x4's untreated should be around 2.00 each, just get you some water seal.

THOUGHT ABOUT BUILDING SOME ABOVE GROUND RUNS/KENNLS FOR MY PUPS....
I KNOW THEY MAKE IT PRETTY SAFE KEEPING THEM FROM DISEASES,BUT THE THOUGHT OF THEM NOT HAVING THE GROUND UNDER THEIR FEET DOESN'T SEEM NATURAL.PLUS EVEN FLIES/BUGS CAN CARRY IN PARVO SO WILL IT REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE? DON'T KNOW.
I BLEACH OUT ALL MY RUNS TWICE A WEEK AND MY PUPS RUN A AREA I HOPE IS SAFE.ALWAYS HAS BEEN -NEVER HAD DISEASE,BUT AGAIN-THOSE DARN FLIES!!!COURSE I'M A WORRY WART.....AND UNTIL MY PUPS HAVE HAD THEIR 3RD.SET OF SHOTS...THEY STAY IN THEIR KENNEL/RUN WHERE THEY WERE BORN.

I went with all treated lumber and just a simple tin roof.... I thought about watersealing the wood myself but figure if i try to skimp on something now its going to bite me in my #$@! later

I haventchecked fence price yet I thought chainlink was alot more expensive than that

Dunno, never used them before. I would assume that they aren't fail safe for disease but for pups it should be fine for the time they have to be in it.

Nope man, its cheaper than other stuff, check out the Lowes website, thats how I price stuff then go to the local shop and make sure its around the same. I built a deck for a guys pond about 4 years ago and he bought untreated decking board, I used thompsons waterseal and the wood is still doing good even soaked in the pond. Of course I treated it

Instead of using chian link, use a good chicken wire.  Once you wrap that around the posts your pits aren't goin anywhere, unless you have complete monster dogs.  You can even use wood posts instead of metal ones to save even more $.  Wood could be a bad idea tho, some dogs, like our female, try to destroy stuff just for fun.  Good luck in whatever you decide!

I HAVE SOME DOGS THAT THINK CHICKEN WIRE/WELDED WIRE ARE NOTHING AND ARE OUT OF IT IN A BLINK OF A EYE....LEAVING ME TO PATCH OR REPLACE OVER AGAIN.

Yea, I know I can't use it because of Lana, she destroys everything, I guess it all depends on what kind of dog you have personality wise because Banks is a good boy, she's the bad one lol.  I don't know tho, I've heard that females are more prone to destroying things, anything toys, cages etc... but I don't agree with that, in my case its true but I've seen some crazy males as well.

Chicken wire doesn't stop em, too thin, they can paw a hole in it. The best is hog panel but its not cheap.

Yea that sounds like Lana, I don't even wanna know what she'll be like when she's older.  I found her with her head stuck threw a chew hole in her metal cage.  It's unbelieveable what they are capable of, lol.  I just know a few people that have their pits gated with chicken wire and they don't get out, they might not even try to get out, but its prob. not the best thing to use if you have dogs like ours obviously, ha.
