If the dog is an American Pit Bull Terrier then you should have no worries about his size. What do you mean by big? Are you expecting him to get to get over 100 lbs?
Some well bred APBT's will top out at around 70 lbs.
My male topped out at 43 lbs. That is as big as he will ever get and he fits the standard and his pedigree can be traced to the 1870's imported dogs.
