Greetings, I am a new member and had some questions. Does anyone have a parvo survivor? How did you over come this? Was your dog alright after having parvo?

I just recently got a blue pitbull pup. He is 9 weeks old. I picked him up on Monday Oct 14th, I've been in touch with the owner since the mom was pregnant. So come my birthday I wanted to pick up the pup I chose out of the litter of 10. He was due for his second parvo shot on saturday. Come Friday night he refused to eat his food. Shortly after he threw up. Within a few hours he had thrown up multiple times. I called the breeder and spoke with her as well as my mom. Both said it sounded like parvo. So late friday night/ saturday morning he was taken to an emergency clinic. He was tested positive for parvo and held until sundday afternoon when they called me to pick him up. I was given 14 pills of Clavamox to give him. After taking 1 pill he relapsed. Come monday morning I rushed him out to meet my mom and her vet the next town over. He was prescribed 3 injections 2 times a day as well as IV treatment. So $1500 dollars later he is doing better. He is off the shots, and the IV. He eats a special can of food a day, fed in 4 doses. He still isnt out of the woods yet, he is still skinny, tiny, and on quarantine.

I just don't know how he will be effected after such an ordeal. Will he be effected in his growth? Will his personality be effected? Is it even worth giving him more parvo shots since he has already been infected with the virus? I'm just curious to know if anyone else has dealt with this situation.

Thanks.

as a vet tech for over 20 years.. yes, a puppy with previous Parvo can survive and live a healthy life. What you paid is the average cost.
Parvo can stay dormant for many years. Make sure you bleach everything.

Good luck! Would love an up date in a few months.
