We always thought it was when they were stressed out.

With Onyx's recent litter, on day four male #2 died. We picked him up and put him in a box... Onyx didn't understand, she thought we were taking a live baby of hers. So we showed her the pup, and she licked him, trying to help him go potty and obviously he didn't move. We closed the box and tried to take him outside and Onyx again thought we were theives. So we took her outside, opened the box, showed her the pup, she gave him another kiss and he didn't move. We closed the box and put him in the hole in the ground and started to bury him..... she finally understood that he was gone. She couldn't even look at what we were doing, she was so stressed out that she completely avoided us and instantly started eating grass. That's our conclusion, dogs eat grass when they are stressed or not feeling well.

But then again, if we pluck a long peice of grass.... Onyx wants to play and eat it lol.... kinda like a treat. She does the same thing with apples!
