Thread: Service Dogs

Let us know who they are and we will be happy to contact them. Likely they will not respond though as most service dog organizations are not going to be willing to accept the possibility of the Pit Bull as a dog for service work. Many such organizations either raise their own to train or get the ones they choose to train from shelters. It is up to us in the Pit Bull community to train (Pit Bull) dogs for service and reach out to those in the community who need service dogs to then place the ones we train. We have to start the movement of acceptance of the breed from the ground up and this is what we are working on but it will be a long term process.
The truth about service dogs is that most are actually trained by their owners for service work. Very few come through any type of formal training program. Because of this we are being proactive in training our first "Camo" to work her through the system to then provide better information to others on the process and to work to try to coordinate the process better for the breed, which will help it in gaining greater acceptance. On top of this we are working at trying to coordinate resources such as breeders who are willing to provide Pits from litters for the training process as well as trainers who are willing to donate time to help in the cause. We can help lead the cause but it must be an effort that is supported by others in order to gain greater momentum.
