What does the term "blue nosed" mean and is it true that a blue nosed pit is more likely to have skin problems?  I hear many people talk about blue and red nosed pits as if they are a separate breed but it is just a color variation isn't it?   I have a litter of orphaned puppies (see my profile or my intro post for details of the story  http://pitbullsocial.com/forum/pit-bull-forum-7/newbie-intro/ ; )

The pups had their 2nd check up and shots today.  While there, the vet told me that 3 of the puppies look like they are blue nosed pits and the dark parts of their coloring will fad to that silvery blue.  She pointed out that the black fur (which she says will turn blue) on the black and white puppy is shorter than the white hair and said that on many blue nosed pits that darker hair tends be be so thin and short that  they are almost bald and this causes skin problems.  That seems odd to me but then again I am completely unfamiliar with most details of the breed. I've researched temperament and training a lot more then colors and conformation since these pups landed in my lap.  I know in boxers, whites tend to be more prone to sunburn for obvious reasons but the whole breed in general is prone to skin allergies, not just one shade.  What are the standard color variations in pits?

BLUE NOSED MEANS JUST THAT-THE PUPS HAVE A BLUE NOSE.JUST AS MOST RED DOGS HAVE RED NOSES.ALTHOUGH YOU CAN GET BLUES,REDS AND ANY OTHER COAT COLORS-BLACK NOSED.

I HAVE HEARD MANY TIMES THAT BLUE PITS HAVE MORE SKIN PROBLEMS-NOT TRUE.SKIN ISSUES AS WITH MOST OF THE BREEDS OTHER HEALTH ISSUES,ARE DUE TO TIGHT INBREEDING / LINEBREEDING [MOTHER/SON,FATHER/DAUGHTER,BROTHER/SISTER,AND THEN TAKING A PUP FROM THAT LITTER AND BREEDING IT BACK TO SIRE/DAM]. BREEDING THIS WAY SUPPRESSES THE IMMUNE SYSTEM THAT CAN CAUSE A HOST OF HEALTH ISSUES FOR THE ANIMAL.

AS FAR AS COLORS-JUST THINK 'RAINBOW'.BLUES,REDS,BLACKS,WHITE,ETC.. WITH MANY SHADES OF EACH.
PATTERNS CAN BE SOLIDS,BRINDLES,TRINDLES,TRIS,MERLES,PIEBALD,ECT....THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!

YOU ARE SO RIGHT.BUT IF YOU LOOK BACK IN THE PEDIGREES-I BET YOU SEE SOME VERY THIGHT LINE/INBREEDING IN THERE.THAT WILL CAUSE LOTS OF HEALTH ISSUES-SKIN SOME TIMES BEING THE LEAST OF THE PROBLEMS-IN ALL COLORS.

Inbreeding/linebreeding cause the majority of problems and allergies that you see.
But blue and red coated pits, due to them having diluted colors, are more prone to having issues.... from what I've read.
APBTs as a breed have common allergies (not all, but enough for it to be known to look for) such as grass, corn, wheat, soy, etc.... but most short coated breeds have these types of sensitivities.

Whats a blue nose?  I short----- I beautiful baby that has a bluish tent from almost black to a silver blue and when people see them they say.... OH how beautiful, I have never seen that color, where can I get one?

I have a Blue Momma and she has had 2 litters (total of 13 pups) with no blue ones in the bunch, but she has big beautiful babies and love them all
