What does the term "blue nosed" mean and is it true that a blue nosed pit is more likely to have skin problems?  I hear many people talk about blue and red nosed pits as if they are a separate breed but it is just a color variation isn't it?   I have a litter of orphaned puppies (see my profile or my intro post for details of the story  http://pitbullsocial.com/forum/pit-bull-forum-7/newbie-intro/ ; )

The pups had their 2nd check up and shots today.  While there, the vet told me that 3 of the puppies look like they are blue nosed pits and the dark parts of their coloring will fad to that silvery blue.  She pointed out that the black fur (which she says will turn blue) on the black and white puppy is shorter than the white hair and said that on many blue nosed pits that darker hair tends be be so thin and short that  they are almost bald and this causes skin problems.  That seems odd to me but then again I am completely unfamiliar with most details of the breed. I've researched temperament and training a lot more then colors and conformation since these pups landed in my lap.  I know in boxers, whites tend to be more prone to sunburn for obvious reasons but the whole breed in general is prone to skin allergies, not just one shade.  What are the standard color variations in pits?
