I would like to hear some thoughts on the best dog food for the price. I am using red flannel at $21 for a 50 lb bag. But I am always open to other suggestions.

Chicken Soup For the Puppy Lovers Souls is what I use.  I have tried other brands for price and it doesn't compare to Chicken Soup.  The ingredient are natural there is no corn in it it compares to Blue Buffalo and is cheaper.  I love my dogs do very nice on it.  I have tried other food for price and my dogs get hot spots. loose stools and more.  I have tried Nutro Natural my Nyla last her hair. I cant tell you how many times I got her scraped for Demedex and it was her food poor thing. Chicken Soup has my guys at there prime weight and healthy coat and clear eyes. I love it the ingredient are great and natural and good for them. Its a little more expesive then some the other food I am seeing on here but I read some of the ingredient and there was corn in the first five. I know I am nuts for paying $35 for a 35lbs bag but its the only thing I can find that my dogs do good on beside raw and I do that too.

Thanks for the links McCoy. I've been using it for several years now was just uncertain if it would really cover internal parasites.
Also around here you can get a 50lb sack at the feeds stores for about 28.00 last year, food grade.

I have to get mine at Pet Supplies Plus or Pet Valu its not found in your regular pet stores like petco or petsmart. usually specialty stores will have it.

On the DE, I would still HW check dogs and watch them. Honestly I'm not completely comfortable using it exclusively with Ace. I've had friends with their goats who still had parasite problems while using it. Who knows if each goat was getting the right amount. Dogs should be easier to control the amount. Just be aware. I've never heard of a vet recommending it. The ones around here all look like I am from Mars when I mention it. Ace is still on Advantage Plus which I hate to use, but HW's are bad in this area and I have not found any information that convinces me enough to take the chance.

GOING TO MEANTION THIS TO OUR VET....BUT HE IS ONE THAT WILL USUALLY SUGGEST WHAT OTHER VETS WILL NOT.FOR HW PREVENTIVE HE SUGGESTED 1%
IVERMECTIN INJECTABLE.1CC PER 100LBS BUT GIVEN ORALLY NOT UNDER THE SKIN.WE HAVE USED IT FOR MANY,MANY YRS FOR EVERY ANIMAL ON THE PREMISES-EVEN THE CATS AND HAVE NEVER HAD HW'S ON THE PLACE.
EVEN PUPS ARE STARTED AT 3 MOS.ONCE A MONTH.

YOU DO HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT,CAN OVER DOSE.AND IF YOU BRING A OLDER DOG IN,NEED TO HAVE IT TESTED FOR HW'S BEFORE WORMING WITH IT.BUT ALL YOUR HW MEDS USED TO TREAT HW'S IS JUST A LOW DOSE OF IVERMECTIN GIVEN OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.

yes ivermectin is the sure way to go and if you do give the full dose amount that choccacon mentioned then you can even give it every other month if you live in an area of lower risk. Another thing you do have to be carreful of tho is concurrent use with some flea medications such as Comfortis as they can cause an overdose of the ivermectin. If you use an internal flea control just check the label to make sure it doesn't react harmfully with it as most labels list that prominently or if you use topical then nothing to worry bout there.

ya Frontline stopped working for me also. I had to go to Comfortis to get back in control again. Its awesome and i love it.. But its kinda pricey when you have as many dogs as you or I.. plus you can't use Ivermectin the month they have it, neither can the momma's use it. Comfortis kept the fleas away for almost a whole year without retreating it was great for the winter - no flea control and no fleas! Last dose I gave everyone was last March, ahh it was wonderful. But of course the fleas are back in full swing now so Im going with Advantage for the pups under 14 weeks and momma's or momma's to be. Seems to be working. Then for the other dogs I switch Advantage/Comfortis every other month so I can still deworm with ivermectin on the Advantage months. Seems silly to keep switching like that but Im afraid of Advantage to stop working like Frontline if I over use it. Keep the fleas on there toes, ha ha
