and most likely you both will do great! We have done a lot of rescue so I do have experience with young mothers. And then for comparison my own females I dont breed until two or three generally. And I have found a difference in the amount of work lol usually the younger females you have to help out alot more than with the older females but each female and litter is different.. even with the same female!
With the young mom, she really just needs a calming comforting presence to reassure her so she doesnt freak out. Many times they will not quite understand what is going on at first and the pain of the delivery can freak them out against that first puppy. That is where being on hand to tell her its ok and that she is doing great will go along ways. They dont always know how to properly carry the pup and may be too rough with them. Again that comes with experience and you being there to guide her will help. Make sure that you have read up on all the labor stages and that you know how to cut an umbilical cord and what to do if she cuts it too close and the pup is bleeding too much (dental floss is handy to have on hand this case so you can tie it off).
I think the most common thing that I have run into new mothers not really understanding they are supposed to do is properly cleaning of the pup. Pups can not eliminate (poo or pee) without stimualation until they are closer to three weeks of age. So an experienced mom will lick them quite frequently and usually before and after a feeding, pooping and peeing them. If she doesnt do this you will have to step in for the sake of the pups so they dont get bloated and in pain. And do in in front of her nose so that she sees what your doing and if your lucky she will begin to do it for herself. I once had a female who wouldnt touch the pups til they were three weeks old and i faithfully did it for her right in front of her. Then all of the sudden she copied me and took great care of the pups from then on.. actually too much so lol as she was still cleaning after them all the way up to them leaving at eight weeks lol! By then of course they could do it themselves hee hee. But ya basicly you will just need to take a cotton ball or wash cloth wetted with warm water and rub there bottom until they go potty. It is pretty easy to pee them but the pooing is a little harder, they will probally poo every other or third time you try.
And with none of this do i mean to scare you in any way! The best thing is to read up and know any things you may run into so that you can be prepared before any if anything does happen.
